The purple haze that envelops the sky somehow seems beautiful.

Humanity perished about a 1000 years ago.
The cause was a certain virus created as a biological weapon. It had rapidly spread throughout the world, claiming many lives.
As a result, except for a handful of people who happened to have antibodies, most of humanity has disappeared.
Despite losing everything, those who survived slowly began to rebuild civilization over time.
